Klub Nocturno is happening at Catch One this Friday, April 3, at Catch One. Five rooms for $5 and I’ll be DJing in the rock en Español vs. cumbia room this time around. Tickets are available now on Dice, so get yours asap.
Aside from my own DJ gig, I do have a few recommendations for this weekend and next week, so keep reading for the details.
Concerts
Kim Gordon’s Thursday night show at Sid the Cat is already sold out, but there are a few other worthwhile upcoming shows that still have tickets available. On Saturday, April 4, L.A. Witch is playing Sid the Cat. Their most recent album, Doggod, was fantastic (you can hear a song from it in the January Beatique mix) and the tickets are under $30, so that’s definitely something to consider for your Saturday night.
Next week, Marshall Crenshaw and James Mastro are playing Zebulon. The following night, Pink Turns Blue plays the same venue.
Dance Clubs/Bar Events
There are a good amount of events happening on Saturday, April 4. Over at Cha Cha Lounge, Rose Knows is doing aSmiths Night. At The Monty, it’s Atomic vs. The Lost Boys with Robert Risque, Panic Mode and Dunkin Dave playing new wave, darkwave, synth and EBM. At the Grand Star Jazz Club, Boombox is throwing a 404 Day party with SP-404 sets from Dibia$e, AFTA-1, Marques Murrey and Bravodomo. At Homage, Lara Sarkissian and Darone Sassounian are playing a B2B set.
Movies
Wattstax is the documentary about the 1972 concert of the same name that took place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and it’s a must-see music documentary with performances from the Bar-Kays, the Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes and more. If you haven’t seen it, you can on Thursday. April 2, at Vidiots.
It looks like Philosophical Research Society is the place to be on Easter Sunday. At 4 p.m., they’re screening John Lilly & the Earth Coincidence Control Office, a recent documentary about the scientist and counterculture figure known for developing the isolation tank and trying to communicate with dolphins. Following that, they’ll be showing Altered States, the Ken Russell movie based on a novel that’s inspired by Lilly’s experiments with sensory deprivation.
Liz O. is an L.A.-based writer and DJ. Follow on Instagram or sign up for the weekly, Beatique newsletter for updates on new stories and gigs.
Listen to Beatique, March 2026 featuring music from Grrrl Gang, Peaches, Charli xcx, The Smiths and more.
