Club Underground This Friday + More Happening in LA

club underground grand star jazz club flyer

As always, Club Underground is happening at Grand Star Jazz Club on Friday night. I’ll be back on the decks on June 12 playing alongside Larry G. There’s no theme, so expect a mix of indie, Britpop, post-punk, darkwave, new wave and more from 9:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. Advance tickets are available online, but you can also get them at the door. Underground is 21+ and the Grand Star is located in Chinatown’s Central Plaza, next to the Bruce Lee Statue.

This is going to be a pretty busy weekend in Los Angeles, given that Pride is this weekend and the World Cup starts on Thursday. Keep reading for my recommendations for clubs, concerts and movie screenings happening in Los Angeles between Thursday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

Concerts

Jesika Von Rabbit and the ShoeGays Extravaganza bring the desert to The Virgil on Thursday, June 11 for a Pride show with Raine Stern and Julie Outrage.  On Saturday, June 13, Hunx and His Punx play a free show at The Getty as part of the Off the 405 series. This is an early show with doors at 6 p.m. and the band set to perform at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, June 14, is the LA Pride Parade in Hollywood. After the parade, there will be a lot happening in the Pride Village, including live music, with Princess Superstar amongst the performers at the totally free event. IDK who needs to hear this, but don’t bother driving. Traffic will suck and the Pride Village is happening right by the Hollywood & Vine stop on Metro’s B Line.

Earlier this year, guitarist Shane Parish released an album called Autechre Guitar, which is what you think it is. Covering Autechre songs on guitar is an interesting concept and the results more so. You can hear this project live at 2220 Arts + Archives on Sunday, June 14.

Coming up next week: Vocalist and musician Penelope Trappes, whose latest release, OPVS NOVUM: A Requiem Reworked includes a killer rework from Saint Etienne, plays 2220 Arts + Archives. On Tuesday, June 16, the All the Feelings tour with Metric, Broken Social Scene and Stars lands in Los Angeles for a night at the Greek Theatre.

Clubs/DJ Events

Early on Saturday, Razorcake’s monthly bash at Footsie’s is hosting a pre-party for Dum Dum Fest, which is happening later this month. It’s also a listening party for Kit Major’s new EP, Miss Ego and it starts at 5 p.m. Later that night, Dècadanse Soirée is happening at Grand Star Jazz Club with Pierrot and Fifi La Roux on the decks. Party starts at 9:30 p.m. and if you RSVP on Partiful, there’s discounted entry. For those who are less familiar with these venues, Footsie’s and the Grand Star are close to each other, but they aren’t walking distance on account of the freeway sitting between them. It’s both a really short drive and a really short bus ride, so hitting up both parties on Saturday is 100% doable.

On Sunday, Bears in Space are celebrating their 18th anniversary with a rager at Akbar that goes from 3 p.m. until 2 a.m. and DJ Harvey will be DJing alongside Chris Bowen, Victor Rodriguez, Stacy Christine and Perfect Lovers. There are some advance tickets available, but there will also be tickets at the door, first come, first served.

Movies

On Thursday, June 11, LA FilmForum is screening Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock ’n’ Rollat Glendale’s Brand Library. The documentary will be followed by a conversation with Chhom Nimol and Senon Williams of the band Dengue Fever. On Saturday afternoon, you can catch the 1925 silent flick Our Heavenly Bodies with a live score at Mount Wilson. Synth History co-presents a screening of Jim Jarmusch’s 1999 film Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai on Sunday at Vidiots. The Academy Museum is showing Only Yesterdayon Monday, June 15, as part of its series “The World of Studio Ghibli.”

Oh, and this just in, Vidiots has $2 matinees starting up on Monday, June 15.

Other Events

Sunday, June 14, is the Fútbol Free Day at The Academy Museum. Entrance is free and you don’t need to reserve a ticket. If you haven’t seen Jaws: The Exhibition, you should go just to check that out because it’s really fun and it closes in July. The Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon exhibit is open now too and it’s worth checking out if you’re into fashion and costumes. The museum is also screening soccer movies all day, including Bend it Like Beckham, Shaolin Soccer and Offside.

Photographer and author Dr. Paul Koudounaris has a new book about the history of railroad dogs, called Go West, Young Dog and he’s presenting a lecture on the same subject at Philosophical Research Society on Wednesday, June 17.
