Dearest party people, I have two DJ gigs this weekend and would love it if you stopped by one or both. On Friday, September 11, I’ll be in the DJ booth all night at Club Underground. No theme this week, just a killer mix of indie, Britpop, post-punk, synthpop and loads more. Take a peek at my set list from last month if you want an idea of what’s in store. Advance tickets are available now. Club Underground is at Grand Star Jazz Club in Chinatown. It’s a 21+ venue. Party starts at 9:30 p.m.
On Saturday, September 12, Klub Nocturno is back at Catch One for a full-venue takeover. I’m playing in The Strokes vs. Joy Division room, which will be indie and post-punk with some new wave and darkwave in the mix. It’s 18+ and advance tickets are available now. Party starts at 9:30 p.m.

Thursday, September 10
There are still tickets available for Cold Cave’s September 10 show at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever. Also on Thursday night, In Sheep’s Clothing is hosting a a free listening party for Haruomi Hosono’s new album, Yours Sincerely, which is out the following day via Ghostly International. In Chinatown, Made to Move is celebrating their eighth anniversary at General Lee’s. Solid DJ lineup taking over both floors of the venue.
Sunday, September 13
Sofia Coppola and Kristen Dunst will be at the Academy Museum on Sunday, September 13, for the 20th anniversary screening of Marie Antoinette. Online tickets are sold out, but you can check Sunday morning to see if more are added or you can get in line for standby tickets, which are first-come, first-served.
For those of you who live on the Westside, or don’t mind driving to the Aero, there’s a René Laloux triple-feature happening on Sunday! Laloux is the late French animation master best known for Fantastic Planet. The Aero will be screening that, plus his two other feature films. Time Masters, which came out in 1982, was his collaboration with French comics legend Mœbius. Then, they will screen his final film, Gandahar, which has been newly restored. I’ve seen all three. You should see all three. They’re gorgeous and weird and thought-provoking.
Sunday night, Bratmobile plays the Lodge Room. They are fantastic live. You will not be disappointed. Opening the show are The Sacred and Kim Theory, the latter of whom is a young punk band named for three amazing Kims- Deal, Gordon and Shattuck. Monday, September 14
The Tear Garden is the long-running side project of Edward Ka-Spel (Legendary Pink Dots) and Cevin Key (Skinny Puppy). If you were a ‘90s L.A. goth kid, then you probably at least know the song “Ophelia,” which was a big club hit back in the day, and maybe the epic “You, Me and Rainbows.” They’ve released a good handful of albums, though, the most recent being Astral Elevator, which came out last year. Anyhow, The Tear Garden plays Pacific Electric on Monday, September 14, and there are still tickets available.
Wednesday, September 16
Haircut 100 at Teragram Ballroom is already sold out, so if you have tickets, I hope you have an awesome night.
If you’re not going to the show and are looking for something to do, Brain Dead is hosting its first OVA night. OVA’s are anime direct-to-video releases and the one screening on Wednesday is a surprise.
