This Weekend, Take a Break from Doomscrolling

Seriously, stop doomscrolling. (Pic: Liz O.)

If you aren’t able to protest in Los Angeles, but want to get involved in the effort to stop the ongoing I.C.E. Raids, check out this list from L.A. Public Press on other actions you can take. Head over to L.A. Taco for a list of 17 non-profits supporting immigration rights that could use donations.

Mostly, I want to encourage people to not doomscroll this weekend. And, by people, I mean myself as well. I really need to stop doomscrolling. Whether or not you’re out protesting over the next few days, we’ll all need a break from the news. So, set aside some time to watch a movie, visit a park or museum, go to the gym or do something to chill for a bit.

As for this weekend’s events, I suggest following the venues, party promoters and bands for the most updated info because who knows what’s going on with this downtown curfew nonsense. (And it is a really poorly planned decision that effectively punishes everyone who lives downtown.)

On Thursday, raga collective Liberate Elemental Force and psychedelic kirtan band SOMA are playing Philosophical Research Society in Los Feliz with tickets available on Eventbrite

Over at the Grand Star in Chinatown, Underground is Friday night , while Decadanse and Disintegration are on Saturday night.

For the house heads, Mark Farina, Colette, J-Dub and Din90 are at Jungle on Saturday, June 14

Whammy! is hosting a two-day 16mm pinhole camera workshop with artist Tetsuya Maruyama on Saturday and Sunday. Plus, on Saturday night, they’ll be showing contemporary Brazilian hand-processed films curated by Maruyama.

For events happening the week of June 16, check out my Coming Soon listings for Discover Los Angeles
