This is just a quick update here with Los Angeles event recommendations for Thursday, November 5, through Wednesday, November 11.

Thursday, November 5

It looks like there are still tickets available to see Kate Bollinger, performing from her new EP, Shop Girl, and other songs tonight, November 5, at 2220 Arts + Archives.  Also happening tonight is Dead City Punks’ record release show at 1720. Also on the bill are Problem (their final show), Mr. Radical, Battery Acid and Black Mold. It’s free, first-come-first-served, and starts at 7 p.m.

Friday, November 6

Roy del Espacio, a Mexican animated sci-fi film from 1983 that was considered lost for many years, makes its Los Angeles premiere at Philosophical Research Society on Friday, November 6.

If you missed out on Gilla Band’s sold out show at the Lodge Room on Wednesday night, you can catch the Irish post-punk outfit at Alex’s Bar on Friday, November 6.

And, if you’re in a dancing mood, maybe catch the legendary Carl Cox at the Palladium on Friday night.

As always, for your indie fix, Club Underground is happening at Grand Star Jazz Club on Friday night.

Saturday, November 7

There are a few cool day-to-evening events happening on Saturday. L.A. Zine Fest is going on at the Angel City Derby Warehouse. Over at SCI-Arc on Saturday is the Corita Day Festival, celebrating the legacy of social justice advocate and pop art star Corita Kent, who was active in 1960s Los Angeles.  Not far from SCI-Arc, Self Help Graphics will be holding their Dia de los Muertos event. There will be a trolly going back and forth between Corita Day Festival and SHG’s Dia de los Muertos from 3-5 p.m.

Saturday night’s big shows, at least in my humble opinion, are Moby, Underworld, Fcukers, Nia Archives and DJ Holographic at Brookside at the Rose Bowl, Tinashe at the Palladium and Team Dresch, Longstocking and The Third Sex at Zebulon. Team Dresch is sold out, Tinashe looks to have some resale tickets available and Moby/Underworld/Fcukers still has tickets at the time of this post.

If you would rather catch a movie on Saturday night, Vidiots is celebrating the centennial of Harry Dean Stanton with a screening of the punk classic Repo Man.

If you’re into house, Saturday night is the debut of Sam Divine’s 555 brand at Mixmag Lab at 1720. She’ll be DJing alongside Sohmi, Juliet Mendoza and Divinefem.

Sunday, November 8

Catalog LA puts the spotlight on local indie labels this Sunday, November 8, at Revenge Of in Glassell Park. It’s a free event with DJ sets, panels and raffles. Amongst the participating record labels are Dais, Stones Throw, Discostan, Dome of Doom, Leaving Records, Dum Dum and lots more. It’s free with an RSVP.

Sunday’s hot concert ticket is Heavens to Betsy at Sid the Cat Auditorium. There’s a waiting list for that.

Two worthwhile movie screenings are happening at Brain Dead on Sunday. At 6 p.m., there will be a commentary track screening of Nirvanna: The Band The Show The Movie. For the David Lynch fans, Lost Highway is on at 8:30 p.m.

Monday, November 9

Wings of Desireplays at Vidiots on Monday, November 9. If you are unfamiliar with the title, it’s the Wim Wenders movie starring Peter Falk, aka Columbo, and with a cameo appearance from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Tuesday, November 10

Not much happening. Maybe see The Devils if you haven’t already.

Wednesday, November 11

Swordes, whose music is a little electroclash, a little hyperpop, plays Moroccan Lounge on Wednesday, November 11.
