New Stories on Repertory Cinema, Violeta Parra and More Out Now

Premium Magazine art house repertory cinema story by Liz Ohanesian

Just wanted to give you a quick update about some stories that I’ve recently written for other magazines and newspapers.

Now is a good time to watch a movie. At least it is if you’re in the greater Los Angeles area, where repertory and arthouse cinemas are experiencing a revival. I wrote about the resurgence of in-person movie screenings, focusing mainly on Philosophical Research Society in Los Feliz and The Frida Cinema in Santa Ana for Premium, which is the magazine Southern California News Group newspaper subscribers. Hi-Fructose issue 74 is out now as well and, for this issue, I interviewed artists Kendall Ross, Vorja Sanchez and Jeremy Geddes. The articles are print only, so if you want to read these and other artist profiles, click here to order a copy.

In the mid-20th century, Violeta Parra was a prominent Chilean folk singer whose life intersected with so many music, art and literary luminaries of the day. A new biography, written by Cal State L.A. professor Ericka Verba, digs into the details of her fascinating, and also tragic, life. I interviewed Verba for the Southern California News Group papers and you can click this link for the story.

Liz O. is an L.A.-based writer and DJ. Read her recently published work and check out her upcoming gigs or listen to the latest Beatique MixFollow on Instagram  or Bluesky for more updates.
