Interpol Nite at Club Underground, Belle and Sebastian + More Happening This Weekend in L.A.

Interpol Nite Club Underground Los Angeles June 5, 2026

Friday night is Interpol Nite at Club Underground with both floors of Grand Star Jazz Club open, so you’ll get your Interpol singles and deep cuts plus your indiepostpunkdarkwaveelectronewwave Underground favorites. Larry G. and I are DJing all night and the 21+ party starts at 9:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available now, but, wait, there’s more.

Belle and Sebastian Los Angeles concert afterparty June 5, 2026

This weekend is also Belle and Sebastian’s 30th anniversary tour stop in L.A., where they’ll be playing Tigermilk on Friday and If You’re Feeling Sinister on Saturday. If you’re going to Friday’s show, stop by Underground afterwards and you can get in for free, just show your concert ticket at the door.

See you on the dance floor this Friday night. As for the rest of the weekend, and early next week, here are my recommendations.

Concerts

Thursday night is a busy one for the goth and goth-adjacent crowd. Kommunity FK, one of the L.A. goth originators from back when it was known as deathrock, is playing the Whisky a Go Go with Gitane Demone and Paul Roessler. Representing the new school, Plague Vendor headlines Zebulon the same night. And, for the synthpop heads, the Human League, Soft Cell and Alison Moyet are all at Hollywood Bowl

There’s more in store for the dark at heart on Saturday night with Madeline Goldstein headlining The Paramount. The Smiths fans, though, might want to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Queen Is Dead with Sweet and Tender Hooligans and Spaghetti Cumbia at Teragram Ballroom. My top pick for Saturday night, though, is Grand Performances season kickoff with Grupo Soñador, plus Wachiwara and Turbo Sonidero. I saw Grupo Soñador at Grand Park a couple years ago and they were incredible live. A bonus is that Grand Performances is free. Plus, it ends at 10 p.m. and is centrally located (Grand Performances is at Cal Plaza, at the top of Angel’s Flight), so you can head over La Cita or Slipper Clutch, or venture over to Little Tokyo or Chinatown, after the show.

Starting off next week, David J, who has a new album out now, plays Zebulon on Monday. Then, on Wednesday, The Church is playing The Fonda

And, yeah, I know that West Hollywood’s Outloud Pride festival is happening this weekend and, yeah, Confidence Man and Hercules and Love Affair are on the bill, but, I just can’t recommend music fest ticket prices.

Clubs/DJ Events

This month’s Boombox looks like it will be a good one with Thurz and 14KT The Immaculate album release party, plus special guests Rhettmatic and Like. That’s happening at the Grand Star on Saturday, June 6. Also happening on Saturday is Psicosis at Melody Lounge and  Prince Night at Zebulon.

If you’re on the hunt for a day party, At the Park on Sunday, June 6, looks like a legit, old school L.A. rave vibe with Beat Non Stop and Groove Riders cred (IYKYK) with DJs Eric Davenport, Thee-O, Steve Loria and more. It’s free, pet-friendly and happening at Woodley Park in Van Nuys.

Movies

American Cinematheque’s Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair continues at the Aero, Egyptian and Los Feliz Theatres through the weekend. It looks like there are still some screenings with tickets available, including Mysterious Skin with a Q & A with Gregg Araki on Thursday. Also on Thursday, the commentary track edition of Nirvanna, The Band, The Show, The Movie plays at Brain Dead and ASCO: Without Permission, a documentary on the influential L.A. Chicano art group, is at Lumiere Cinema

On Saturday, the classic Rebel Without a Cause is at The Orpheum. If you’ve never seen the movie, you should change that. I recently rewatched it for the first time in many years and it’s even better than I remembered. There’s one scene- I won’t say which because it’s the spoiler, but if you’ve seen it, you know- that hits even harder now that I’m an adult and have seen the same egregious situation play out on the news IRL over and over again.

For cult film fanatics, in Long Beach, the Shock a Go Go Festival is happening at The Art Theatre on Saturday and Sunday. Amongst the films screening are Forbidden Zone, Prom Night and the original, 1960 version of The Little Shop of Horrors.

Sunday, June 7, is a rare screening of the anime Night on the Galactic Railroad at Philosophical Research Society. Meanwhile, at Whammy!, the Stuck on VHS series continues with Italian sword and sorcery film Hearts and Armor
