Are you going to see French Police at The Novo on Thursday? Not only is Riki playing, but I’ll be on hand DJing as part of Klub Nocturno’s support set. I got to play with Klub Nocturno for the French Police shows at the Glass House and El Rey earlier this year and they were fantastic, so I’m psyched to be doing it again. See you at the club this Thursday night.

Then, on Sunday, October 19,  I’ll be playing and all-vinyl set with XL Middleton, Moniquea and more as part of Salt Box Sessions inside Hello Stranger. Come through between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. to dig through the Salt Box’s vinyl selection, hang out and dance a bit. For the record, I have no idea what I’ll be playing. It could be Italo disco or minimal synth or norther soul or all of the above, so you really have to stop by to find out.

Here’s what else is happening in L.A. this weekend and early next week.

Concerts

Wet Leg’s show at the Greek Theatre on Friday, October 18, is already sold out, but there are still some tickets left for Blood Club over at The Roxy. Night Ritualz, who you may have read about here on Beatique, or heard in my DJ sets, is opening, along with Casket Cassette.

On Saturday night, the Cosmic De-evolution Tour comes to the Hollywood Bowl and there are still a few tickets left to catch the B-52s, Devo and Lene Lovich. Meanwhile, Tortoise will be at The Broad, for a record release show celebrating Touch, the band’s first album in nine years, which comes out on Sunday. For a Halloween vibe, head over to Footsie’s where Cramps tribute band Teenage Goo Goo Muck is playing.

After you stop by Salt Box Sessions on Sunday, you might want to head down to Brain Dead Studios, where JG Thirlwell is performing the West Coast premiere of his live score for the 1962 stop motion animation film Heaven and Earth Magic. Thirlwell is well-known to post-punk, no wave and industrial music fans for Clint Ruin, Foetus and other projects. He also scored one of my all-time favorite TV shows, The Venture Brothers

Nicolás Jaar and Dave Harrington’s project Darkside has already sold out three nights at the Lodge Room, but late shows were added for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Tickets for Sunday’s second show were low while writing this, but there’s more availability for the 11 p.m. shows on Monday, October 20 and Tuesday, October 21.

Tuesday, October 21, is also the record release show for Spiritual Cramp’s new album, Rude. I loved their debut album and, if you go to my DJ gigs, you’ve probably heard their song “Talkin’ on the Internet” at some point in the last couple years, so I’m pretty excited to hear the new one. The show, at Zebulon, is free and Death Lens and Public Opinion are opening.

Movies

There are loads of cool movie screenings happening around L.A. right now. There are two standouts, though, for Saturday night. On October 18, Crispin Hellion Glover’s No You’re Wrong. Or: Spooky Action at a Distance makes its West Coast premiere at the Aero. Glover will be on hand for a Q&A, plus, he’ll be performing his Big Slide Show Version 3 before the film screening. At The Montalbán on the same night, John Waters, Riki Lake and Mink Stole will be on hand for a special 35th anniversary screening of Cry-Baby

Before I sign off for today, I wanted to remind you that Club Underground is on Halloween this year and both floors of the Grand Star Jazz Club will be open on Friday, October 31. Tickets are on sale now, so get yours as soon as possible.

Listen to the Beatique, September 2025 mix featuring music from Pulp, Gorillaz, Bob Vylan, Baxter Dury and more.
