Legendary Pink Dots head back to L.A. this Friday, October 3. At the time of writing this, it looks like there are still some tickets available on Dice to catch the band live at Zebulon. I’ve seen LPD live a number of times over the years and each show has been magical, so I would definitely recommend catching them in concert.

As for other shows happening this week, The Chameleons are at the Belasco on Thursday, October 2. Friday night is packed with shows. In addition to Legendary Pink Dots at Zebulon, Polo & Pan plays The Forum and L7 plays Belasco with The Lunachicks and CSS. I saw CSS earlier this year and they were amazing, so if you’re going to the L7 show, get there early enough to catch the Brazilian dance-punk band. Model/Actriz, whose latest album, Pirouette, is fantastic, is playing The Fonda on Friday too, but it looks like that show has already sold out. On Saturday, October 4, Acid Mothers Temple is playing at Zebulon. Then, on Tuesday, October 7, Patrick Wolf heads to Lodge Room with support from SRSQ.
Now that it’s October, you can expect a lot of horror flicks in L.A.’s movie theaters. There really are a lot, so for a comprehensive list, go to Revival Houses. Some of this weekend’s highlights include Re-Animator at Vidiots (October 2), Basket Case at Whammy (October 4), Dracula’s Daughter at Gardena Cinema (October 4), Bride of Frankenstein at Gardena Cinema (October 5), Killer Klowns from Outer Space at Brain Dead (October 5) and The Lodger with live score from Morricone Youth at 2220 Arts + Archives.
Philosophical Research Society always has excellent Halloween programming in October and this year is no different. They’re actually kicking it off tonight (October 1) with “A Taste of Vampire Movies Around the World.” On Saturday, October 4, they’ll be screening the new Quay Brothers film, Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass. On Wednesday, October 8, they’ll be hosting “Inviting Death to Dinner,” a special panel and book release event for To Die For: A Cookbook of Gravestone Recipes by Rosie Grant. For more information on all of these events, head over to the Philosophical Research Society website.
Also happening this weekend is Heavy Manners Comics Fair, which will be on Saturday and Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. Each day features a different lineup of local cartoonists, so there should be lots to check out. Head to Heavy Manners website for more information.
Rare Books LA is happening at Union Station this weekend too. This year’s event is also a celebration of Frankenstein, with talks on Mary Shelley’s classic novel happening. More info over at Rare Books L.A. website.
Saturday, October 4, is also the Muertos Artwalk at Olvera Street, featuring local artists, plus performances throughout the day. It’s free and literally across the street from Union Station, so if you’re going to Rare Books L.A., you should definitely make some time to head over to the artwalk as well.
