This Friday, I’m back at Klub Nocturno for another full-venue takeover of Catch One. I’ll be in the new wave vs. darkwave room with a mix of your favorite throwbacks and new school bangers. This is Nocturno’s annual free night and, well, I hope you already RSVPed because tickets are sold out on Dice. Follow Klub Nocturno on Instagram for more info (and to catch me talking about one of my favorite albums).
Keep reading if you want my recommendations for the rest of the weekend and early next week.

Also happening on Sunday is a matinee show over at Gold-Diggers with Ruby Sparks, whose recently-released debut album, Iris, is kind of like a cross between Tame Impala and Beachwood Sparks, and Laila Smith. Doors are at 2 p.m. and tickets are on Dice.

Movies
For all you David Lynch fans reading this, Twin Peaks episodes 4-6 are playing at Alamo Drafthouse over the weekend and into next week. Check Alamo Drafthouse’s website for dates and times. The first season of the series is also screening at Zebulon Sunday, January 11, but there is a wait list for that. Meanwhile, Eraserhead is at the New Beverly on Saturday night. And for the Bowie fans, Labyrinth is back in a bunch of theaters for a 40th anniversary screening. Plus, Alamo Drafthouse continues their David Bowie series with Moonage Daydreamon Sunday and Tuesday.
On the off chance that some of you reading live in or around Santa Ana, and because I think The Frida is a fantastic movie theater, I’ll recommend a few screenings there as well. The Secret Agent plays at Orange County’s only arthouse theater through next week. This is the Brazilian thriller set in the 1970s and starring Wagner Moura from Narcos. I saw the film a few weeks ago and it is fantastic. It looks like a ‘70s film. It has a killer soundtrack and the story is kind of unpredictable. Next Wednesday, January 14, The Frida continues its “Remembering Rob Reiner” series with the endlessly quotable masterpiece, The Princess Bride.

This is a group show with some wonderful artists in it, including Jay Lynn Gomez, Patrick Martinez, Dakota Noot and Nadya Tolokonnikova/Pussy Riot.
