No gigs for me this week, but there’s a lot happening in L.A. from The Smiths tribute nights to David Lynch screenings. Deaf Club kicks off the weekend on Thursday at Alex’s Bar, Intuition Festival is happening at The Broad, Night Tempo is back in L.A. on Saturday night, French group Caravan Palace kicks off next week with a Monday night show at The Novo and Snow Patrol is in town on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In addition, as you might have heard, Dark Delicacies is closing its brick-and-mortar early next month. The Burbank book shop has been a mainstay for horror literature and film fans and I spoke with co-owner Del Howison for the Daily News about the decision to semi-retire. (Click here for a gift link to the story.) Del’s signing his new book at the shop on Saturday, so stop by then, or during business hours before the last day.
Meanwhile, Deadly Wax, a killer record store, just relocated to Granada Hills and the soft opening of the new space is this week. The shop is now located at 17820A Chatsworth Street 91344 and hours are posted on Deadly Wax’s Instagram page, so if you’re in the north San Fernando Valley, stop by and check it out.
In other news, Ash, the new sci-fi horror film directed by Flying Lotus, is out on March 21 and it will be showing at various theaters around L.A. I have not seen the film yet, but the soundtrack is cool, so I’m curious to check it out soon.

Valley Girl @ Los Feliz 3 Valley Girl is the best 1980s teen film. I’ve written a whole essay why the story beats all the other high school flicks of the time, but I think it’s also important to stress that the music in Valley Girl is on a whole other level than the decade’s better known soundtracks. I mean, there are two Sparks songs, plus The Flirts! That’s not to mention how many other songs that would go on to become part of the ‘80s KROQ canon, the best known of which now are “Love My Way” and “I Melt with You.” But, anyhow, Valley Girl is flawless and whether you plan to see it for the first time or 1000th time, head to Los Feliz 3 on Saturday night. Los Feliz 3, 1822 N. Vermont Ave., Los Feliz 90037; 4 p.m.; Get tickets
Intuition Festival Night 2 @ The Broad Intuition Festival is a live music and short film event that’s happening at the Broad and coincides with the current exhibition, Joseph Beuys: In Defense of Nature. Weekend passes and single day tickets are available and, if you can only go one night, I recommend heading to The Broad for Night 2 to catch Money Mark, the keyboardist and producer who long collaborated with the Beastie Boys, and Michael Rother, the German guitarist who co-founded both Neu! and Harmonia and will be playing music from both band’s catalogs in his set. The Broad, 221 S. Grand Ave., DTLA 90012; 8 p.m.; 21+; Get tickets

The World’s End @ Landmark Pasadena Playhouse The World’s End is my favorite of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. It’s the most believable premise of the three films because pub crawls never end well. It’s also hands-down the best soundtrack in Wright’s films. The songs are all fire, plus they’re all perfectly placed in the film. Anyhow, World’s End is in that quasi-streaming land, where you can only rent it from the tech overlords, so, if you haven’t seen it before and you’re near Pasadena, maybe support an indie chain and catch it Tuesday night at the Landmark. Landmark Pasadena Playhouse, 673 E. Colorado, Pasadena 91101; 7 p.m.; Get tickets

Snow Patrol @ The Wiltern With a new album, The Forest Is the Path, out now and a sold out UK/EU tour just completed, Snow Patrol heads west for a fairly short jaunt across the U.S. and Canada, which includes two nights at The Wiltern. The band is playing on Tuesday night as well but the ticket availability currently looks better for Wednesday, so I’m recommending that show. The Wiltern, 3790 Wilshire Blvd., Koreatown 90010; 7 p.m.; All ages; Get tickets
Also happening:
Lost Highway @ Alamo Drafthouse. 700 W. 7th St., Suite U240, DTLA 90017; Multiple times; Get tickets
