Girl Power Nite at Club Underground + More Happening in L.A. This Weekend

Club Underground Girl Power Nite Grand Star Jazz Club flyer March 20, 2026

March is Women’s History Month and, this Friday, March 20, we’re celebrating at Club Underground with Girl Power Nite. Both floors of Grand Star Jazz Club will be open, with Larry G. and I will be DJing all night. I’m playing in the theme room, where you’ll hear everyone from Siouxsie and the Banshees to Elastica to Le Tigre to Boy Harsher to Wet Leg. A bonus: for those of you who are going to see Peaches and Pixel Grip at the Bellwether on Friday night, you can get into Underground for just $5 if you show your ticket at the door, so definitely plan to stop by after the show. Advance tickets are available now.

As for the rest of this weekend, and early next week, here are my recommendations.

Concerts

In case you missed it last week, Live Nation/Ticketmaster, kind of settled the antitrust suit with the Justice Department, but are still being sued by 30+ states. Meanwhile, Live Nation employees were caught joking about how the company is fucking over fans. Read the stories linked above for the details. IDK if that affects anyone’s decision about which shows you’ll see, but we should all know what’s happening. Some of the shows that I recommend are Ticketmaster ones, but most are indie and I do prioritize indie events for these listings on account of Live Nation/Ticketmaster being the bane of every music fan’s existence.

On Saturday, March 21,  Little Willie G (Thee Midniters) is playing at The Paramount and Spiritual Cramp is at Teragram Ballroom. Sunday afternoon at Alex’s Bar is a matinee show with Redd Kross, Conan Neutron and the Secret Friends, Uni Boys and Hex Code.

My top pick of the week is happening Sunday, March 22, at The Smell. Indonesian punk band Grrrl Gang will be playing with Kuromy. It’s Grrrl Gang’s first ever U.S. tour and they’re a fantastic band, so definitely make plans for this show. Also, check out my recent interview with Grrrl Gang linked below.

As for next week, Anja Huwe of Xmal Deutschland is playing at 1720 on Wednesday night, which should also be a very special show. You might recall that I interviewed Huwe last year. If not, check out the story linked below.

Clubs and DJ Events

Peepshow Menagerie always puts on fun burlesque events and, this Thursday, they’re bringing one of the troupe’s signature shows, Burlesqueland, to Slipper Clutch on Thursday, March 19. This is Peepshow Menagerie’s 16th annual tribute to a certain theme park south of the county line and it should be a good one. Tickets available on the Peepshow Menagerie website

On Saturday, Dirge is serving deathrock, dark ‘80s and industrial over at The Monty with DJs Felix, Pockets Macabre, Bractune and more. Doors at 9 p.m. and there’s no cover.

If you’re going to the sold out Peaches and Pixel Grip show on Saturday night, Yeah Yeah Yas is happening after the show inside Camille’s at The Bellwether

Sunday is 2 Hot 2 Handle’s Kings for Spring Drag Brunch at The Offbeat with a host of performers and DJ French on the decks. Doors are at 11 a.m. and the show gets started at 12:30 p.m.

I rarely go out on Monday’s, but, this past week, I went to Motown on Mondays and spent a good chunk of the night on the dance floor. DJs C-Minus and Phatrick killed it. Don’t know who is playing on March 23, but, if you’re down to go out on a Monday, definitely stop by the Short Stop for MoM.

Movie Screenings

If you didn’t take my advice and see Sirât last weekend, you have another chance this weekend, when the movie continues its runs at Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Los Angeles.

On Tuesday, March 24, Whammy! and Philosophical Research Society’s 7th House have joined forces for a screening of Ted & Venus, which was directed by Bud Court, who also co-wrote and starred in the film. I haven’t seen the film, but it sounds interesting and I tend to trust the tastes of both Whammy! and 7th House. The film screens at Whammy! in Echo Park.
