Swimming Bell plays Permanent Records Roadhouse on Thursday, June 5

I’ll be in Phoenix on Friday night with Klub Nocturno to play new wave and darkwave at Crescent Ballroom. Last time I played Phoenix with Nocturno was a blast and I’m excited to be heading back. If you’re in the area, get yourself tickets and join us on the dance floor.

Here in Los Angeles, there are a handful of events that I want to put on your radar. Swimming Bell, who were featured on Beatique just last week, opens for Sebastian Schub at Permanent Records Roadhouse on Thursday, June 5. Tickets are available on Eventbrite for this 21+ show.

Meanwhile, Taleen Kali, who appeared on Beatique back in April, is on the road opening for Ringo Deathstarr. The final show of the tour is this Sunday, June 8, at the Echoplex and it’s all ages. Tickets are still available.

Exotikon, the two-day music and arts festival with mid-century and tiki vibes, is happening on Saturday and Sunday over at the Mayan. Both single and two-day passes are available on Eventbrite.

Next week, on Wednesday, June 11, Annie and the Caldwells, the fantastic family band that plays soul and disco, are at Zebulon. Tickets for that show are on Dice

This weekend and next week are great for catching a movie. Turnstile: Never Enough, the companion film for the band’s new album, is showing at multiple Laemmle theaters on Thursday, where a few tickets are still left. (The screening at Brain Dead is already sold out. For more L.A. area screenings through the weekend, click here. ) American Cinematheque’s Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair continues into the weekend with screenings of Watership Downand Grave of the Fireflies. On Saturday afternoon, MOCA has a special screening of S/he is Still Her/e: The Official Genesis P-Orridge Documentary with director David Charles Rodrigues, artist Ron Athey and CEO of the Estate of Genesis P-Orridge, Genesse P-Orridge in the house for a post-screening discussion. Saturday and Sunday evening, The Leather Boys, the 1964 Sidney Furie film that The Smiths repurposed for the “Girlfriend in a Coma” video, screens at The Eastwood in Hollywood. Sunday evening, Agnès Varda’s 1981 documentary of L.A. murals, Mur Murs screens at Philosophical Research Society. On Monday, Hitch! a nearly month-long series of Hitchcock films at The Egyptian, kicks off with Sabotage and The Last Laugh. Bride of Chucky plays as part of Alamo Drafthouse’s Killer Cuts series on Tuesday, June 10.

Don’t forget that Sunday is L.A. Pride. This link has all the info for the parade, which starts at 11 a.m., and this link has details for the Pride Village that’s next to the parade route.

And the last bit of news for this weekend is that the LAX/Metro Transit Center is opening on Friday. I know, I can’t believe we’re finally getting Metro access to the airport either. (The catch is that the People Mover to the terminals isn’t coming until next year.) Because of that, Metro is free all weekend. LAist has the details.
