So I Married an Axe Murderer is playing this weekend too. Friday night at Vidiots.

If you’re not still recovering from Oasis-mania, there is plenty to get you out of the house and away from your screens this weekend. Thursday’s Desire and Johnny Jewel show at Hollywood Forever is already sold out, but there will be an afterparty at Gold-Diggers. Friday night is packed with concerts, including Anamanaguchi at The Wiltern and Cold Waves XIII at The Mayan. Retrospective exhibition Let There Be Gwar opens at Beyond the Streets on Saturday, while Jaws: The Exhibition debuts at The Academy Museum on Sunday. Plus, Eraserhead screens at Greystone Mansion on Saturday night.

Heading into next week, Swans play three nights at The Lodge Room, one of which is already sold out, and generative Brian Eno documentary, Eno, heads to Philosophical Research Society. There’s more too, so keep reading for the details on what’s happening in Los Angeles between Thursday, September 11 and Wednesday, September 17.

Concerts

This is one of those weeks where it seems like all the shows are happening on the same night. On Friday, September 12, SAADI, who I recently interviewed here, celebrates the release of her new album, Birds of Paradise, at Zebulon. It’s a free show, but you can RSVP for it over on Dice. Anamanaguchi also has a new album out now, Anyway, and the band’s tour heads to L.A. on Friday. Tickets for the show at The Wiltern are still available. If you’re tastes lean towards darkwave and industrial, you’ll have to choose between Glom Fest at Lodge Room, with The Awakening, Cemetary Girlz, Dark Chisme and more, and Cold Waves XIII at The Mayan with Nitzer Ebb, Front Line Assembly, Mentallo and the Fixer, Clock DVA and Leather Strip.

Next week, Swans is playing three nights at Lodge Room with support from Little Annie and Paul Wallfisch. Tickets are already sold out for Monday, September 15 and they’re running low for Tuesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 17, so don’t wait until the last minute if you plan on going.

Dance Clubs

Desire and Johnny Jewel’s Thursday night concert at Hollywood Forever is already sold out, but you night be able to get yourself into the afterparty that’s happening at Gold Diggers. Party starts at 11 p.m. and Desire and Johnny Jewel are set to DJ. There’s no cover, but you can RSVP on Dice

On Friday, September 12, Matias Aguayo, who I’ve seen play a few times and is a fantastic DJ, is playing Night Moves 4th anniversary party at Homage Brewing alongside Tottie and James Axon. More info is available on Resident Advisor. As always, Club Underground is happening on Friday at Grand Star Jazz Club and Larry G. will be on the decks. Tickets are available on Dice and Eventbrite

Movie Screenings

Hip-hop classic Beat Street is playing at Gardena Cinema on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The 1980s New York time capsule of a film includes appearance from loads of the era’s luminaries and is definitely worth the watch. The New York vibe continues at Gardena Cinema on Sunday with Party Girl, where Parker Posey plays a club girl whose existential crisis leads her to the Dewey Decimal System.Check the theater’s ticketing website for all showtimes.

Elsewhere this weekend, Eraserhead screens at Greystone Mansion (!!!) on Friday and Mike Myers best movie, So I Married an Axe Murderer, is at Vidiots the same night. Ghost in the Shell is at The Frida on Saturday night.

During the week, tickets are running low to catch Eno, the generative Brian Eno documentary, at Philosophical Research Society on Wednesday, September 17. Tickets are also running low for The Peanut Butter Solution, an incredibly strange 1980s Canadian kids film that’s playing Wednesday night at Alamo Drafthouse

Let There Be Gwar, a retrospective exhibition of the heavy metal performance art collective, opens on September 13 at Beyond the Streets. There’s no cover and the show runs through November 2.
