This weekend, you can catch Cold Cave at The Bellwether, Lead Into Gold over at 2220 Arts + Archives, Nuovo Testamento and SRSQ at The Roxy and Teenage Goo Goo Muck over at The Offbeat. Plus, Razorcake celebrates 10 years of parties at Footsie’s, Décadanse is back at the Grand Star with French pop on vinyl all night, Black Orpheus screens at Vidiots and more shows, clubs and movie screenings are happening this Valentine’s Day weekend in L.A. I’ve also included a few recommendations for early next week, like Mariachi El Bronx at Amoeba and The Black Watch at The Barklay, so keep reading.

Concerts

You’ll have your pick of shows this weekend. On Friday, Cold Cave is playing The Bellwether and Ghostface Killah will be at 1720. Plus, Nuovo Testamento and SRSQ will be at The Roxy on Saturday. If you’re looking for something a little more budget-friendly, though, I recommend heading over to 2220 Arts + Archives on February 13 for Serpentine Transmission, Lead Into Gold (Paul Barker) and 011668 & HL333. I’ve seen Lead Into Gold twice in the past year or two and both sets were fantastic. The $15 ticket price on Dice is a total bargain. For a Valentine’s Day-themed concert, consider Mia Doi Todd, who is playing a set of love songs at Healing Force of the Universe on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Sunday night, Cramps tribute band Teenage Goo Goo Muck are playing The Offbeat

During the week, Mariachi El Bronx has an in-store at Amoeba on Tuesday, February 17. I saw them play at La Cita a few months back and they were fantastic. Definitely catch them if you can. The show is free and starts at 5 p.m. Follow the directions on Amoeba’s site for the signing. And The Black Watch will be playing at The Barklay in South Pasadena the same night. Then, on Wednesday, Bolero! plays Zebulon with The Silvertone and DJ Shannon Shaw.

Dance Clubs/DJ Events

As always, Underground is at Grand Star Jazz Club on Friday night. Larry G. will take you from 9:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. with a mix of indie, post-punk, Britpop, synthpop and lots more.  Early Saturday evening, Razorcake celebrates a decade of parties at Footsie’s. Later that night, Décadanse is back at the Grand Star with DJs Pierrot and Fifi Laroux. Also happening on Saturday is Disko Sa Disco over at Hello Stranger in Little Tokyo. Hello Stranger will be poppin’ on Sunday afternoon too when XL Middleton, Moniquea and more take to the decks for Saltbox Sessions.  In Highland Park, Mi Vida celebrates their 18th anniversary on Sunday with Club Señora DJs Maurice de la Falaise and Scarlett Casanova on the decks. Then, on Sunday, night, Acid Rain is bringing the goth vibes to Footsie’s with DJs Rose Knows, Malvada and Fifi Laroux.

Movies

Love Tapes by Wendy Clarke is a collection of videos with people from across the globe talking about love. The project, which began in 1977 and continues to this day, is rarely screened, but segments pulled from the archives will be show on Thursday, February 12, at Philosophical Research Society. So I Married an Axe Murderer, the totally underrated 1993 romantic black comedy, is at Gardena Cinema on Friday with three showtimes. With Mardi Gras coming up next week, Vidiots has Black Orpheus playing on Sunday, February 15. The movie is a classic, but, just in case you aren’t familiar with it, the film is a retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice set in Brazil during Carnival. On Sunday night, and Monday afternoon, Fire Walk with Me plays at Alamo Draft House
