This Friday, I’ll be joining my friend Malvada at La Cuevita in Highland Park for Ex-Cetera. Anything goes when we DJ from 10 p.m. until last call, so stop by and join us. La Cuevita is at 5922 N. Figueroa Ave. and there’s no cover, but it is a 21+ night.
On Thursday, April 24, Taleen Kali, Izzy Outerspace and Waverly Drive are playing Permanent Records Roadhouse (1906 Cypress Ave. 90065). Saturday night, April 26, Circuit de Yeux plays Zebulon (2478 Fletcher Drive 90039) with support from Leya. TBH, I’m a little surprised that there are still tickets available for this show considering the rave reviews that the Chicago-based artist has been getting for her new album, Halo on the Inside. If you’re a fan of artists like Zola Jesus, The Knife/Fever Ray and fka Twigs, you should probably make plans to catch Circuit de Yeux now. Tickets are available on Dice.
Philosophical Research Society’s 7th House Screenings (3910 Los Feliz Blvd. 90027) has a Marcell Jankovics retrospective beginning on Sunday, April 27. Jankovics was a Hungarian animated filmmaker whose works include the mind-blowing 1981 film Son of the White Mare, which will screen later in the series. The opening installment of the retrospective focuses on János Vitéz, the 1973 film that is actually Hungary’s first animated feature, as well as Jankovics’ shorts. Tickets are available on Eventbrite and, if you want to see the entire series, you can also save 25% by getting a series pass.
If you’re looking for a free show, Clear Vision Collective’s residency at The Escondite (410 Boyd St. 90013) continues on Tuesday, April 29 and this week’s installment features Acidtrain, so it should be a good show. Doors are at 8 p.m. and The Escondite is 21+.
