Club Underground’s Halloween Party + More Happening in L.A. 10/29-11/04

This Friday, October 30, is Club Underground’s Halloween party at Grand Star Jazz Club in Chinatown. Both floors of the venue will be open, with Larry G., Filthy Rich and me, Liz O., on the decks from 9:30 p.m. until close. Tickets are going fast, so you might want to head over to Dice or Eventbrite and get yours in advance. See you on the dance floor this Friday night!

There’s a ton happening this weekend, and early next week too, but these are my best recommendations.

Thursday, October 29

Brigitte Calls Me Baby plays Thursday, October 29, at the El Rey and it looks like tickets are still available. If you’re into The Smiths and ‘00s indie, that’s probably the show for you this week.

For film and art and art film nerds, the third installment of Lightstruck’s Jan Švankmajer series is happening at 2220 Arts + Archives on Thursday night.

Party-wise, I think the best option is Monstruo Hop from the Cretin Hop crew is the best option. Happening at Footsie’s on October 29, you’ll get live tributes to Lords of the New Church and Dead Boys, plus DJs playing “haunted rock n roll” from 10 p.m. until last call. The bonus is that there’s no cover.

Saturday, October 31

If you aren’t the party type, or really the Halloween type, and just want to do something fun on October 31, the screening of UHF at the Greek is a good bet. If you’ve never seen the movie, you should. It’s a cult classic and might make you long for the days of actual local TV. Plus, “Weird Al” Yankovic will be there for a Q&A after the screening.

As for Halloween parties, there are three that look most interesting to me. Philosophical Research Society’s Halloween Bash has a little bit of everything, including a Ghost Story Salon, and you’ll probably see some great costumes there too. Cathode Cinema’s Halloween Party at 2220 Arts + Archives will have three rooms, including an all-night video marathon and a dance party. Then there’s Albert Reyes’ Annual Halloween Party at Eastern Projects Gallery in Chinatown. This is an early one, it runs fro 6 p.m. until 11 p.m., and it’s a good chance to check out his super cool haunted house and art show. Eric Nordhauser is DJing and he plays killer tunes. Costumes are optional.

Sunday, November 1/Monday, November 2

Sunday and Monday are Dia de los Muertos and, while there a few different events happening around town, the ones I always visit are at Gloria Molina Grand Park and Olvera Street. I wrote about both Dia de los Muertos events last year, but, to summarize, they’re walking distance from each other and accessible by Metro. I’d recommend taking Metro even if you have a car, the parking situation is not cute. Both events opened over the weekend and run through November 2. I haven’t seen this year’s altars yet, but they’re always beautiful and emotional. This year, Grand Park is having its closing ceremony on Sunday, from 3 – 7 p.m. with performances from Butchona, Lxs Cochinxs, Los Negrete Fam and Mosa, plus workshops and activations. At Olvera Street, the Danza de la Muerte is nightly at 6 p.m. with a procession to follow at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, November 3

Bizou, who I recently interviewed here, celebrates the release of their new EP, Widow, with a headline set at Gold-Diggers on Tuesday, November 3. They’ll be playing with Landroid and Nightjacket. If you’re into ‘90s style darkwave and shoegaze, this is a show you’ll want to check out.

Wednesday, November 4.

Taylor Bickett, who I interviewed last summer, is a terrific singer-songwriter based in Nashville, with a full-length, Nothing I Can’t Undo, out now. (You can hear the song “If Only” on my August mix, btw.) She’s on tour right now and is playing the Moroccan Lounge on Wednesday, November 4.

Liz O. is an L.A.-based writer and DJ. Follow on Instagram  or sign up for the weekly, Beatique newsletter for updates on new stories and gigs.

Listen to the Beatique Mix for October, 2026, featuring music from Hercules & Love Affair, The Strokes, ADULT., Tinashe, Gorillaz and more.
