Fontaines D.C. Listening Party at Club Underground + More Happening This Weekend

Dopamine Chamber, the fifth album from Fontaines D.C., is out this Friday, October 16, and we’re throwing a listening party at Club Underground at Chinatown’s Grand Star Jazz Club. Doors are at 9:30 p.m., album play begins at 9:45 p.m. After the album, both floors of the Grand Star will be open with Larry G. and I playing indie, post-punk, darkwave, new wave and more. If you’re going to see Boy Harsher on Friday, come by after the show and show your ticket for free entry into Underground. Otherwise, you can get tickets now on Eventbrite or Dice.

And, while we’re on the subject of Underground, you might want to get your tickets now for the Halloween party on October 30.

As for the rest of the weekend and early next week, IDK about you, but I’m really looking forward to seeing Ken Russell’s The Devilsuncensored, which opens at multiple theaters tonight and is playing across Los Angeles for the next week.

If you’re a System of a Down fan, you might want to check out the Toxicity 25th anniversary exhibition that’s happening at Beyond the Streets this weekend. And if you’re in Chinatown, definitely head to Eastern Project’s for Macabre, Albert Reyes’ art show, which features 80 artists in addition to the haunted house that he used to build in his backyard.

Thursday, October 15

Philosophical Research Society’s October movie programming focuses on ambient horror. On Thursday, October 15, the pick is Full Circle (aka The Haunting of Julia), starring Mia Farrow. I haven’t seen this, but I would trust PRS’ 7th House. Their movie programming is solid. So, if you’re into ambient horror, check it out.

Saturday, October 17

There are a few cool shows to choose from on Saturday night. Stone Throw’s 30th anniversary festival is happening all weekend, with Peanut Butter Wolf, Dâm-Funk, Eric Andre and more playing Saturday night.

Peaches is back in L.A. on Saturday night. She’s playing at The Fonda and, this time, Gelli Haha and Soltera are opening the show. Definitely get there early if you’re planning to go.

Also on Saturday night is Bedouine, who is playing Sid the Cat. I haven’t had the chance to listen to her new album, Neon Summer Skin, yet, but her earlier albums are fantastic.

Sunday, October 18

Sunday at the Stones Throw fest features Egyptian Lover, John Carroll Kirby, Kyle Mooney and lots more.

Over at Vidiots, there’s a Tribute to Treehouse of Horrors on Sunday with clips, trivia and a costume contest, plus surprise guests.

Monday, October 19

On Monday, October 19, Steal the Story, Please!, the Democracy Now! documentary, is playing at USC and GOAT journalist Amy Goodman will be on hand.
