This Friday at Club Underground is The Smiths x Joy Division night. Both floors of Grand Star Jazz Club will be open with Larry G. and I playing your faves from both bands, plus the Underground mix of indie, post-punk, Britpop, new wave, shoegaze and lots more. Tickets are on sale now on Dice and Eventbrite. Don’t miss out on Underground this Friday, February 27, because it’s going to be a fun one.
As for the rest of the weekend, keep reading for my recommendations for concerts, clubs and movie screenings happening in L.A. between Thursday, February 26 and Wednesday, March 4.
Concerts
Houston indie rockers Vortx are in town on Thursday, February 26, when they’ll play the Echoplex and it looks like there are still some tickets left to see English singer Artemas over at the Palladium on the same night.
Saturday is the big concert night this week. Experimental hip-hop trio Clipping. is playing The Fonda. Shoegaze duo loveliescrushing, who have been around since 1991, will be at Zebulon on Saturday night. Twin Ritual, the synthpop band from San Diego, is playing at The Paramount. Over at Oblivion will be a “Fuck ICE” benefit show featuring SadGirl and The Paranoyds, with proceeds going to CHIRLA. Then, at Coaxial, Perfect Circuit is hosting a new experimental electronic concert series called Plastics Dept. Tom Hall, Lauren Sarah Hayes, Anthony Baldino and Eventuate play the first one. So many choices!
I gave up festivals years ago, but if you are, Skyline has a killer lineup for Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1. The Blessed Madonna is playing BeB with HAAi on Saturday, Richie Hawtin is scheduled for Sunday and there aren’t many tickets left, so you might want to act fast for that.
On Sunday, March 1, Distortion, a new punk drag show, debuts at Zebulon with a band that includes Dewie (The Groans), Bree Tomas (QTPI Xpress/Royalties), Grayson Sinfield (Roman Graves/Dimber) and Candace Hansen (Alice Bag Band/Reckoner/Dimber). No cover!
Dance Clubs/DJ Events
City pop night Dress Down with DJ Tsugu Itagaki is back at Let’s Go! Disco on Thursday, February 26. On the same night, DJ Harvey is playing Sunset at Edition in West Hollywood. On Saturday, at the Grand Star, Disintegration is happening and it’s a birthday bash for DJs perksandkisses and Philly Freedom. Over at The Monty on Saturday night Danse-X presents a release party for Charm School’s new EP. And, on Sunday afternoon, the VHS Tape and Record Swap at Hello Stranger is happening with vinyl DJs, music videos and more.
Movie Screenings
Again, it seems like just about everything is happening on Saturday night this week. 2220 Arts + Archives has a 50th anniversary screening of the documentary Chulas Fronteras with live music, panel discussion and DJ sets as part of the program on February 28. The same night is the last week of Videotheque’s month-long VHS-Fest and they’ll be screening Traffic Jam (Jutai). Vidiots is hosting a free screening of The Voice of Hind Rajab. Brewster McCloud will play at the Egyptian, the first in a series celebrating the films of recently deceased actor Bud Court.
Liz O. is an L.A.-based writer and DJ. Follow on Instagram or sign up for the weekly, Beatique newsletter for updates on new stories and gigs.
Listen to Beatique, February 2026, featuring music from ADULT., Kneecap, The Clash, The Cramps and more.
