Legendary Pink Dots head back to L.A. this Friday, October 3. At the time of writing this, it looks like there are still some tickets available on Dice to catch the band live at Zebulon. I’ve seen LPD live a number of times over the years and each show has been magical, so I would definitely recommend catching them in concert.
Klub Nocturno is coming up again this Friday, September 26, at Catch One. It’s four rooms this time around, plus, just to mix things up a bit, I’ll be in Room 1 playing rock en Español and cumbia. I’ve got the bangers on deck for you so, get your tickets on Dice before it sells out.
As for the rest of your weekend, and early next week, here are my recommendations.
Remember the Tomata du Plenty art show that I wrote about here on Beatique back in August? Tomata, the retrospective of work from the late artist and frontman for seminal L.A. punk band the Screamers, closes at MutMuz Gallery in Chinatown on Friday, September 19. There will be a closing party on Friday night, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. If you haven’t seen the show, or you want to see it again, I highly recommend going to the closing event.
After the closing party, hit up Club Underground at Grand Star Jazz Club, which is right across Hill Street from MutMuz. (The gallery is on Chung King Road, Grand Star is in Central Plaza, Hill Street runs between the two plazas.) I’m not DJing this week, but it’s still going to be a vibe with Larry G. on the decks all night playing indie, Britpop, post-punk and more. Tickets are available at the door, or in advance via Dice or Eventbrite.
As for more of what’s happening this weekend and early next week, keep reading. (And my next gig, in case you’re wondering, is Nocturno at Catch One on September 26.)
So I Married an Axe Murderer is playing this weekend too. Friday night at Vidiots.
If you’re not still recovering from Oasis-mania, there is plenty to get you out of the house and away from your screens this weekend. Thursday’s Desire and Johnny Jewel show at Hollywood Forever is already sold out, but there will be an afterparty at Gold-Diggers. Friday night is packed with concerts, including Anamanaguchi at The Wiltern and Cold Waves XIII at The Mayan. Retrospective exhibition Let There Be Gwar opens at Beyond the Streets on Saturday, while Jaws: The Exhibition debuts at The Academy Museum on Sunday. Plus, Eraserhead screens at Greystone Mansion on Saturday night.
Heading into next week, Swans play three nights at The Lodge Room, one of which is already sold out, and generative Brian Eno documentary, Eno, heads to Philosophical Research Society. There’s more too, so keep reading for the details on what’s happening in Los Angeles between Thursday, September 11 and Wednesday, September 17.
This just in: I’ll be DJing at Club Underground at Grand Star Jazz Club tonight, August 29, at Grand Star Jazz Club in Chinatown. Tickets are available now on Dice and Eventbrite. Plan to get there early and stay late for new indie, classic new wave, Britpop, darkwave and everything in between.

I’m not DJing this weekend, but there’s a lot happening in L.A. over the Labor Day holiday. Keep reading for some of the concerts, dance clubs and movie screenings going on between Thursday, August 28 and Wednesday, September 3.
This Friday, August 22, is Yeah Yeah Yeahs x Siouxsie and the Banshees Night at Club Underground. Larry G. and I are DJing and both floors of Grand Star Jazz Club will be open. It’s been more than a year since Underground last did this theme and, if you’ve been to it before, then you know it’s a good time. Tickets are available now and you can get yours on either Eventbrite or Dice. Party starts at 9:30 p.m. on Friday night and it’s 21+.
Saturday, August 23, is the last day to check out Monday Nights: L.A.’s Scene of the Century, the retrospective exhibit of Sean Carnage’s Monday Nights, which I co-curated, at Leiminspace in Chinatown. For the closing party, John Thill will be playing live and Kyle Mabson is DJing. This is also Leiminspace’s 10th anniversary, so come out and celebrate from 4 – 7 p.m. There’s more information on Sean Carnage’s website.
Keep reading for my club, concert and movie screening recommendations for this weekend.
See Monday Nights: L.A.’s Scene of the Century and make your own buttons on Saturday, August 16, at leiminspace in Chinatown
I’m not DJing this weekend, but have a pretty good amount of recommendations for shows, dance parties, movie screenings and more. Keep reading for my top picks of events happening in L.A. between Thursday, August 14 and Wednesday, August 20.
Nocturno is back at Catch One (4067 Pico Blvd. 90019) for five rooms of dancing on Friday, August 8. You’ll find me in the darkwave vs. indie sleaze room, which is also where Vilevo is playing live. On top of that, I’ll be playing an extra dose of She Past Away tunes for you throughout the night. Tickets are available now on Dice for this 18+ night. Check out my set list from last month’s Nocturno and make plans to join us on Friday night.
Here’s what else is happening this weekend and early next week.
A wee bit of Sean Carnage’s photo collection from Monday Nights: L.A.’s Scene of the Century 2005-2016. Show opens at Leiminspace in Chinatown on Saturday, August 2, 2025 (Photo of installation by Liz O.)
I spent a decent chunk of Tuesday afternoon at Leiminspace with Sean Carnage and Miguel Rodriguez listening to Cold War Kids, CSS and Bloc Party while hanging Monday Nights: L.A.’s Scene of the Century, 2005 -2016. The top photo is actually a before pic from Tuesday. We added a lot more to the wall and there are more walls and more photos and I’m getting pretty excited for people to have the chance to see it. The show opens on Saturday, August 2, with the festivities happening between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Do join us in Chinatown’s Central Plaze at Leiminspace (443 Lei Min Way) for the opening. If you can’t make it, the show is running through August 23 and regular gallery hours are Saturdays from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. We also made a 120-page mook/exhibition catalog that will be sold at the gallery. Stay tuned for more programming announcements too.
