You Picked Out My Reading List, Now I Need to Get to the Library

Yesterday, I asked you to suggest some books for me to read and I got quite a few responses. Here’s everyone’s recommendations, culled from the Beatique comment section, Facebook and Twitter. I’m keeping track of who recommended what and you will all get a special shout out when the book is read.

Vernor Vinge, any book

Oryx & Crake, Margaret Atwood

The Year of the Flood, Margaret Atwood

Reamde, Neal Stephenson

Neil Gaiman, any book

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, Fannie Flagg

The Windup Girl, Paolo Bacigalupi

Cannery Row, John Steinbeck

Suttree, Cormac McCarthy

Villette, Charlotte Bronte

The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins

Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier

The Thirteenth Tale, Diane Setterfield

The Once and Future King, T.H. White

The Stranger, Albert Camus

The Idiot, Fyodor Dostoyevsky

The Historian, Elizabeth Kostova

The Swan Thieves, Elizabeth Kostova

Ask the Dusk, John Fante

Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk, David Sedaris

So Far from God, Ana Gastillo

Candy Girl, Diablo Cody

The Magician, Somerset Maugham

On the Road, Jack Kerouac

Kitchen, Banana Yoshimoto

Now, where do I start? I’ve only read one book on this list, On the Road, and that was years ago, so it’s time for a re-read. There are a few books on here that I’ve always meant to pick up at the library, but didn’t, namely The Stranger and The Idiot. And there’s one title, Rebecca, that I totally should have read because I love the movie.

We’ll find out what the first pick is after I go to the library this weekend.

If you think something is missing from this list, add it to the comments.
