Tonight’s our big tribute to Soft Cell at Club Underground, which was named one of this week’s picks on L.A. Slush, and I’m trying to pack my records for the night. Obviously, all three of us will have lots of Soft Cell and related acts on hand. I have no idea which tracks I’ll end up playing, but “Torch” is certainly a good one. Maybe Larry or Diana or I will drop “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye.” You’ll have to be there to find out.
Of course, we’re not just playing Soft Cell tonight. I’m trying to work my set around the band though. From the looks of my crate so far, this is a small sample of what I’ll have on hand:
1. British ’80s (New Order, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Human League)
2. Early ’00s indie and electro (Le Tigre, Miss Kittin, Ladytron, ADULT.)
3. Newer stuff (M83, Dum Dum Girls, Cold Cave)
4. Brit pop (Elastica, Blur, Placebo)
I never know what I’m going to play until I’m actually playing it. Seriously, I change my mind a lot. However, I’m really in the mood for Cold Cave’s “Icons of Summer” tonight.
Don’t forget to RSVP on Facebook if you’re planning on going tonight. Hope to see you there.
